To understand where you’re going, you need to start with where you came from. This philosophy is valuable in life, but it also is relevant in today’s fast moving technology landscape.

Government has entered a Cloud Smart world of focused, maximized value and holistic security. But it took a while to get to this point and there have been valuable lessons along the way.

It all started with a greeting, “Hello, World!” First referenced in 1973, Hello, World! is one of the first examples of code. From there coding began to get more complicated and connected, advancing to systems and sets of data that needed to be housed within large data centers.

While able to do infinitely more, with the introduction of mobile, more advanced data analytics capabilities and increased connectivity, traditional on-prem data centers quickly became outdated, except in certain specific situations. This led to virtualization, consolidation and high speed networks, eventually becoming what is thought of as cloud today.

Now, firmly operating in a cloud-driven IT universe, government is looking for ways to optimize and improve its use of cloud with this same lesson in mind. Agencies want cloud to provide new efficiencies, enable automation and allow reliable data access regardless of location. The desire to optimize has led agencies to hybrid cloud environments, which offer agencies the best of both private and public cloud, but introduce a new challenge: management. It’s a lot more complicated than “Hello, World!”

Agencies need access to an automated cloud option that starts on-prem but can seamlessly connect with workloads in public cloud environments. This allows agencies to trust their workloads are appropriately secured and efficiently used at all times, without having to worry about details of switching between the two environments.

Throughout the innovation process, technology providers learned an important lesson: technology works better when it all works together. With today’s fast-moving technology and collaboration, we are able to find quicker resolution to the problems government and industry are looking to solve.

Iron Bow has developed a solution—IronTarget™—that brings together technology leaders Dell Technologies, VMware and Intel to enable cloud, address modernization goals and realize high availability. It’s built on VMware Cloud Foundations, which offers three DoD-proven virtualization platforms—vSphere, NSX and vSAN, spanning compute, network and storage capabilities, respectively. The solution is designed to work with any major cloud provider including VMware Cloud on AWS, Horizon Cloud on Microsoft Azure and IBM Cloud for VMware.
