PODCAST: The Future of Telehealth and Collaboration
Telehealth is the use of electronic information and telecommunications technologies to support long-distance clinical healthcare, patient and professional health-related education, public health and health administration.
This new movement is valuable because it enhances the access of care to virtually anyone in the U.S. The benefits are better health outcomes, lower hospital readmissions and enhanced patient engagement. From a provider side, telehealth allows smaller hospitals to provide more advanced care, as well as develop new revenue streams.
Thanks to advances in mobility and video collaboration, it is possible for telehealth to fully become mainstream. In terms of adoption hurdles, there are licensing challenges with regards to doctors providing care across state lines, as well as billing and reimbursement issues that vary state-by-state.
Iron Bow Technologies has been playing a role in enhancing the adoption of telehealth with its Telehealth Education Delivered mobile demo truck (otherwise known as TED). TED has been visiting hundreds of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) sites across the U.S. to spread education and awareness around telehealth technologies and initiatives.
These are some insights from a recent TechSource podcast interview with Dan Klanderman who heads the Iron Bow Collaboration Practice.
