Key Takeaways from Cisco Partner Summit 2020

Just because Cisco held their Partner Summit in a digital format for the first time this October 28 and 29 did not mean that any quality or value was compromised. With 19,000 registrants attending, Cisco did not disappoint with the delivery of their company updates, roadmap for the future and product announcements across their $50 billion portfolio.

Conference attendees could quickly identify the main messaging of the conference: Cisco is pleased but not satisfied in being agile, relevant and profitable.

  • Agility: In these unprecedented times, Cisco stressed the importance that agility and resiliency are the keys to maintaining organizational success. Cisco is helping their customers by providing tools that can automate processes (and gain actionable insights from that automation), unify platforms into a single source of truth all while having end-to-end security built into each tool. Cisco’s portfolio helps customers respond and adapt to business disruptions and to also accelerate the digital journey and cloud adoption in order to transform their operating models to stay viable in the evolving industry landscape.
  • Relevance: A intuitive follow up to agility is relevancy. Organizations that adapt with the times, change their way of thinking in order to find new routes to market and develop new technology to meet today’s demands are the organizations that will remain relevant and necessary to today’s consumers. Cisco leads by example in providing lifecycle services, managed services and ‘-as-a-service’ offerings and tools like APIs and DevNet certification to help developers and programmers stay ahead in their field.
  • Profitability: Of course, it goes without saying that if an organization is going to stay above water, it also needs to be profitable. Cisco is making strides to develop more simple, automated software and enterprise architecture, ensure their next generation marketing is data-driven, virtual and flexible and navigate the gray market to protect Cisco’s loyal partners.

In addition to the conference’s main messaging, executive leaders explained the company intrinsic priorities:

  • Transforming infrastructure: With tools like Cisco Meraki (100% cloud managed IT), vManage and Umbrella (allowing users to expand into multi-cloud) and Cisco’s DNA Center (the network management and command center for Cisco DNA allows the use of advanced artificial intelligence [AI] and machine learning [ML] to proactively monitor, troubleshoot and optimize networks), Cisco powers users to streamline operations and automate processes to produce actionable insights and increase efficiency.
  • Securing data: End-to-end security is more important now as work-from-home is the new normal and cyberattacks are on the rise. Cisco currently offers SecureX (the cloud-native cyber security platform that integrates into your infrastructure and unifies your security into one location for visibility and automated workflows so customers can stay compliant and counter attacks). In addition to SecureX, Cisco soon plans to provide other tools like single sign on, behavioral analytics and titration/NGFW integration.
  • Empowering teams: While Webex has been an industry-leading communications tool for years, the remote work environment has expedited the dependency on such tools. Cisco promises to deliver a 10x (not 10%) better experience than in-person interactions with seamless collaboration, smart hybrid work experiences and built-in security with privacy, compliance and management capabilities. One specific example they demoed at the conference was noise cancellation function within the Webex environment (more on this will be announced at Webex One on December 8 and 9, 2020).
  • Reimagining apps: Cisco believes that a hybrid, multi-cloud, app-centric infrastructure is the de facto way of operating IT. As such, their tools like the Nexus Dashboard (their simplified, centralized data center dashboard that helps manage hybrid cloud network operations), App Dynamics, Intersight and ThousandEyes (end-to-end insights to assure application experience) all work together to bring optimized app-centric operations to customers.

No big conference is complete without product announcements and updates. Here are a few from the Partner Summit:
