Earlier this year, Department of Defense CIO Terry Halvorsen called for agencies to [standardize and migrate to Windows 10](https://enterprise.microsoft.com/en-us/industries/government/department-of-defense-directs-dod-agencies-to-standardize-on-windows-10/). Halvorsen was [quoted](http://phys.org/news/2016-02-pentagon-huge-swift-windows.html) saying, “the department must rapidly transition to Windows 10 to improve cyber security and streamline and lower the costs of its information-technology footprint.” He set a goal of completing the migrations by January 2017.
