Former Washington Mystics player
At Gaming Society, the former WNBA All-Star, NCAA Champion, 3x Final-Four participant, ACC Rookie of the Year, 2x All-American and FIBA gold medalist, is helping to make sports betting more inclusive, accessible and easier to understand for all fans. She continues to open doors and diversify the sports betting industry by targeting loyal underserved fan audiences, prioritizing betting education, and creating fan experiences highlighting the social benefits of betting.
Most notably, Marissa leads Gaming Society’s Bet on Women initiative, which stems from a partnership with the WNBPA and aims to propel women’s sports and women fans forward through the growth of the betting industry. Marissa also spearheaded Gaming Society’s official partnership with the WNBA to create a first-of-its-kind prediction game, where fans will be able to compete for prizes by answering betting-inspired questions on every WNBA game throughout the season. The WNBA prediction game will feature current WNBA players in contests, promotions and content, as Marissa is keen on demystifying the boundaries for current and former athletes to participate and monetize within the gaming category. Marissa also co-hosts Gaming Society's digital show See You in the Lobby, which celebrates women’s basketball's vibrant personalities, chaotic on-court antics, competitive play and deservingness for more — of everything.
Marissa worked alongside Maryland lawmakers to gain crucial support for the legislation in Maryland to legalize sports betting, with a particular focus in making the bill more inclusive by prioritizing minority and women-led business. The bill, which was signed into law by Governor Larry Hogan in June 2021, opens the door for many kinds of businesses, especially those where diversity is often lacking, to obtain mobile betting licenses, and encourages the commission reviewing applications to consider giving early market access to minority- and women-owned entities. Marissa was integral in gaining voter support for the referendum that would legalize sports wagering, as chairwoman of the campaign "Vote Yes on Question 2." Her main goal with the campaign was to ensure part of the tax revenue from gambling would go toward education.
