Nelson P. Moe
Nelson Moe recently joined Iron Bow as the Sales Strategy Principal for SLED. In his role he will guide Iron Bow through the execution of business identification and capture for State Local Education (SLED) and Federal Civilian teams.
Nelson previously served as the CIO for the Commonwealth of Virginia and led the Virginia Information Technologies Agency. As CIO, he led a 220-person organization responsible for oversight on Virginia’s infrastructure services, IT procurements, cyber security, and enterprise architecture.
During his tenure, he led the multi-year transformation of the Commonwealth’s IT infrastructure services from a single supplier model to its current multi-supplier model of seven suppliers and an integrator. The new model is 10% more cost effective from the single suppler contract (~$200M) and allows for much more contract leverage, cost visibility and service flexibility for the Commonwealth.
As the IT procurement authority and he approved RFPs and contracts for IT infrastructure and applications at about a $400M/yr.
Nelson served 3 years as CIO for the U.S. House of Representatives prior to coming to the Commonwealth. In that position, he was responsible for the IT vision, enterprise strategic planning, budget implementation, cybersecurity operations, business continuity management, IT services and project management.
Prior to his time at the House of Representatives, Nelson finished a career in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear submarine officer. Nelson holds a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from the United States Naval Academy and graduate engineering degrees from The Catholic University and George Washington University.
