Although new security threats and vulnerabilities are constantly being discovered, three major security issues were recently exposed that can threaten virtually every citizen and corporation.
The first of these was a threat called CryptoLocker, which involved cyber criminals using ransomware to hijack devices and files and demand payment to release them. Then there was the Heartbleed vulnerability, which exposed the personal information of the users of many different online applications to attackers. Finally, there was the Internet Explorer vulnerability identified by the Department of Homeland Security, which had the potential to lead to Internet Explorer users having their devices hijacked and information compromised.
We’re only halfway through the year, and already 2014 is shaping up to be an interesting year in cyber security with new threats that require organizations to take stronger actions to protect against them. To discuss it, we were able to catch Jon Kim at Iron Bow’s recent engineering summit. Jon is the Director of Iron Bow’s Cyber Security Practice, and weighed in on these threats and how users can avoid them.
