Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative Presents an Opportunity for Federal Agencies

Federal agencies are making some progress in closing the required 40 percent of the government’s data centers, as mandated by the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative (FDCCI), but there is still significant work ahead. While the task seems daunting, it should be considered an opportunity.

The U.S. Army has identified the opportunity that FDCCI has offered. Neal Shelley of the U.S. Army’s Information Management Support Center recently spoke at a Federal Executive Forum and stated that the biggest benefit to the Army was simply identifying where the data centers were located. The Army identified more than 1,200 data centers as defined by the Office of Management and Budget  and exceeded their goal of 185 data center closures by 2015. “By closing many of the smaller data centers, we’ve increased our security postures and increased efficiencies,” According to Shelley.

This short video from Brocade demonstrates how agencies must take hold of the FDCCI opportunity to not only reduce data centers but improve data centers for great efficiencies and cost savings. Watch now to learn more.
